General Information

The Lahore School of Economics library has long been renowned as possessing one of the largest and most impressive collections in Pakistan on the subject of economics. The library complex of the economics department houses the main collections on materials related to business, finance, macroeconomics, and microeconomics. The stacks and shelves are organized according to the Dewey Decimal System.

The library possesses a large collection of reference materials. In addition to printed materials, visitors have access to electronic databases including online dictionaries, encyclopedias, and data from the Government of Pakistan. As a general policy the removal of reference materials from library premises is prohibited.

The Lahore School of Economics library is sensitive to the needs of researchers within the university community. The library therefore is committed to maintaining an excellent collection of scholarly academic journals and publications of professional organizations. Research papers, reviews, texts, and literature distributed by national and international organizations are available. Current issues are made readily available to visitors on designated shelves in more heavily trafficked areas. Older issues are bound and made available in the stacks.

The reserve desk maintains materials that have been set aside for use in specific courses at the university. Each member of the faculty has the discretion to set the amount of time each volume or article will be available to students. Generally each student is permitted to examine a given item for three hours unless the professor has instructed otherwise.

In keeping with the inherently commercial nature of research and study at the Lahore School of Economics, the library maintains annual reports on over one hundred companies and makes them available to visitors.
